Why open source
Kiwi IRC is a free and open source project allowing anybody to contribute to the project. With an aim to build the most awesome, extendible and easy to use web IRC client we invite anybody to throw in any ideas or changes - no matter how large or minor you may think your idea is.
Where's the project?
There are two major parts to the project, both are hosted on GitHub.
- Front end client
Github repository: http://github.com/kiwiirc/kiwiirc
The front end client is what you see in the browser. This is the main bulk of the project and is the entire IRC client. - Server IRC gateway
Github repository: http://github.com/kiwiirc/webircgateway
This project is a middle-man between the front end client and the IRC network. It takes websocket connections from the browser and proxies the user to the IRC network.
License
All of the Kiwi IRC projects are licensed under the Apache 2.0 license. This allows you to modify and re-use the projects as you see fit as long as you keep both the license and notice files intact with the project source.
Community - Or getting in touch
There is an IRC channel to discuss development when people are around on irc.freenode.net, #kiwiirc. (Note: Most activity is found within the GMT timezone!). We also maintain a Google Groups mailinglist here
