People using Kiwi IRC in their browsers may not show their true IP address to IRC networks if the network has not been configured correctly. This is because browsers cannot connect directly to IRC networks so they must be proxied through a server.
To overcome this, we use an irc feature called WEBIRC, or cgi-irc. This allows us to tell the network what the clients true IP address is. If you would like to configure your network for webirc, please see here.
Currently custom plugins cannot be run on kiwiirc.com. You may however use a browser extension such as Tapermonkey that allows you to run custom JavaScript on the webpage. You will still have full Kiwi irc plugin access.
The number of users is unlimited. However if your channel or network starts impacting the kiwiirc.com service we may reach out to help improve the channel. We do routinely cover channels with thousands of users.
Because open source and amazing volunteers!
The development of kiwiirc is entirely open source and therefore is developed by volunteers that love to see the project grow. With financial sponsorship from our sponsors we are able to provide the support and maintenance for free, for everyone.
There will be some paid features going forward, but the kiwiirc.com service will never be a paid for service to help the IRC community grow.
Kiwi IRC is tested on all major browsers and IE 10+. Desktop and mobile.
Kiwiirc.com does not have any control on the networks or channels you connect to. It is impossible for us to unban you nor will we know the reasons why you were banned.
You will need to talk to the support staff for the network you are using.
No! Kiwi IRC does not log any of your usage or messages. Not even the kiwiirc.com staff can see your messages.
You can embed Kiwi IRC onto your website, blog, CMS, any webpage that supports HTML. You can find more information on this here
When you configure your network to use kiwiirc.com, a monitoring bot will periodically connect to the network to check that it is working. If enabled, it will also run /list to enable faster channel searching for your users.
This happens when the IRC network has mis-configured Kiwi IRC. Please let us know if you see this error so that we can contact the IRC network admins to fix this.
Some IRC networks put limitations on the characters you can use in your nickname. Unfortunately we can't guess every single network but usually only letters and numbers - starting with a letter - will work in almost all cases.
